It is Time
There are no words to describe this pain.
Our journey together must end for awhile.
And I must uphold our sacred trust.
The promise I made the day you claimed me.
That if your time came
I would put aside my selfish need of you.
To do what is best for you.
To walk the rest of the way, without you.
Oh how could one so small,
Have such a large impact on my life?
You taught me to purr when something feels good.
You showed me how to live in the moment
And to play with boundless joy.
But mostly you taught me that unconditionally love
can be openly and honestly returned.
And so, my little one, I send you to the Next,
With my deepest gratitude and total love.
Thank you for letting me love you.
Being yours has been an extraordinary gift.
I Love you sweet girl!
Mommy
I will fulfill my promise to Squashies at noon today.
Update: at 12:32pm Squashies left this world for the next big adventure. God's Speed my little one.

We have leaky eyes here because we know what you are going thru and loved Squashies too - even tho we've never met. Most of us with pets have been there a few times ourselves and know how very very hard it is to let go. But Squashies will not be suffering now and can rest in peace. We hope one day soon these unhappy memories will be over shadowed by all the special moments you have had together. HUGS dear friend. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry about Squashies. You are doing the generous thing for her, though your own heart is breaking. You are all in our thoughts and hearts.Comforting purrrrrrrrrrrrrrs.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry that you had to make this decision, the hardest of all to make. Run free, Squashies.
ReplyDeleteOMC we are so very sorry to hear this news. But I know that Squashies loves you & was the luckiest of kitties to have had you in her life. Fly free, sweet furriend!

I did not know Squashie, but I know her story as an adult rescue cat. I was 5 when Mom and Dad got me this year in Jan. And my former shelter has lots of older kitties and they are the ones we pull from the county shelter and we keep them until we find a furrever home for them. Older kitties have such love to give. Squashie was saved by her huFamily, but I know she saved you right back, just like me, my Mom and Dad. We all save each other. Paw hugs for Squashie on her journey, and she is happy you stayed with her. She will come back one night, softly walk across you bed, you will feel the covers move slightly...she will let you know she is arrived at the Bridge and waiting for you all. Savannah
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry to hear this news. Mom Paula has leaky eyes in front of the computer at work while reading this. We know the Squashies knew how much you loved her and how much you did for her. Mom Paula is sending a virtual hug for you as you make this decision and go through the grieving process. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hey it's Jet here.
ReplyDeleteOur deepest condolences on the crossing today of your sweet Squashies. Our friend, Brian, posted of his wet whiskers and we can only imagine the whiskers in your forever home.
Your poem resonated with us deeply on the recent passing of our sweet feline brother, Puffy. Perhaps he can ease Squashies' crossing, as he was always a gentle, sweet, chatty boy.
Sending your family Jetty kisses, JJ hugs and comfort from Mom.
We are so very sorry. This is a beautiful and moving tribute to your darling girl.

With a too familiar sadness, I write to you...I know and feel your pain and am crying for you and with you. When I lost my boy just 11 months ago, my world ended as I knew it and part of me will never be the same. The love of a pet is so incredible and the relationship we develop with certain of our animal friends can even far surpass human relationships..of this I am sure!! It's so hard to go on living and breathing when your best fur-friend is gone, but the knowledge that they no longer suffer does offer so solace. That and the belief that one day we will again be together. I know that I asked my boy - Lolo/Lautrec - to come back in a new and healthy body. One day, in profound sadness, I sat by his grave and begged him to give me a sign. That very evening, I received an email from someone I had never met and they told me they had 'Elioth' for me (Lautrec's pedigree name was Emmanuel - an E litter just like Elioth!). Today we have Elioth AND his sister Eschu (Chouchou) and though they are each a little like Lolo, they are unique in other ways. I love them both dearly and what is very special is their relationship with the dogs. Now, whenever I go anywhere in the house, I don't one shadow like I did with Lolo; I have 4! And on a good day, even Tiny comes so I have all 5 of my furkids with me. I do believe that our departed fur-friends do watch over us and are with us silently participating in our lives. The painful part is that we would love to hold them again and feel their warmth and softness and hear their purring. But no matter what, I will never forget my Lolo just as you will never forget Squashies and we were soooooo lucky to have had them in our lives even if their time with us was way shorter than we had wanted. We will see them again. They are there waiting for us. Big hugs and lots of headbutts and tailwags from WeezDaBadCats and DaMeenDawgs
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry Squashies that you had to leave. We send love and rumbly purrs to all of your family, furry and furless and know that you will watch over them awhile. Safe journey little girl, there'll be so many friends to greet you and show you the ropes.

This is so hard for me, with the grief for my own Possum still so fresh, to read about the loss of yet another beloved furbaby in our blogging family. Squashies was such a beautiful kitty. I wish I knew what words to say to comfort you, but I know that really, there are none and I can only pray that Time will at least dull the edges of your pain.

ReplyDeleteYour love for her and hers for you will never pass. It is eternal.
We send purrs of love and support for all. Fly free on Angel wings!
ReplyDeleteEven though I haven't been around much, I'm sorry.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to read that Squashies had to leave you. I wish there was something I could say or do that would help you feel better. I also hope you are comforted by knowing you gave Squahsies the best gift you could have - yourself and your love. So many deserving animals never experience that gift. We are purring for you and all of the loved ones Squashies left behind. (Sorry, its taken so long for us to write, but our mom had some surgery this past week and is really out of it.)
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry about Squashies. I was so hoping that she would get well. Hugs from me and comforting purrs from Spyro and Oja.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to find the words to say for Squashies but there are none. Farewell sweet one. I will miss you.

Thank you so much for your kind words about Herman. I really appreciate your prayers.
ReplyDeleteJust writing to say you are not far from our thoughts. Hope you are finding solace in the turning of the days. Just a little bit.
