UPDATE: Breeds with best type-B blood chance: (Thanks Simba!)
UPDATE: 2012/09/17
I owe so many people my undying gratitude for getting us to this point. It is amazing how well the internet works in the hands of tireless, talented and loving friends.
Thanks to Cheryl at Cats of the Wildcat Woods, and Matt and Keeter, of Blood Donors of MU CVM, Squashies will get her transfusion. All to buy her some time so that the wonderful docs at Baltimore Veterinary Emergency can figure out where all her red blood cells have gone.
There are so many other people that tweeted, facebooked, blogged and made phone calls to find us a donor, to offer their kitties for testing and to lend a supportive shoulder. I promise to compile a list, but right now, frankly, I am running on fumes, and I don't want to miss anyone.
YOU FOLKS ARE AWESOME! Please keep those purrs coming, Squashies is a tough little girl, but she needs all the help she can get.
If you get a chance, please stop by Blood Donors of MU CVM and hit the LIKE button. These folks really came through for us.
Oh my goodness! Please someone in Baltimore, help Squashies!! Oh dear!
ReplyDeleteHugs and purrs and fingers crossed!

Oh no! I hope you can find someone who can help out. We're purring for Squashies.
ReplyDeleteWe are purring...and Mommy will post this on FB.

Oh darn, I don't know what mine are. Oh I wish we could help you. Hopefully, you will find someone. Sending tons of purrs and prayers that you can find a kitty with Type B blood. Sending some prayers too.
ReplyDeleteWe also don't know our blood types. Squashies, we will cross our paws double that a donor can be found. Mom recalls their Spaniel when she was a teenager, being saved by a transfusion, but didn't think blood type was an issue.
ReplyDeleteOh no sweet Squashies! We can check and see if our vet knows our blood types, but we are in Utah.
ReplyDeleteWe are purring our hearts out for you!
I Remeber our Vet saying our two could not get a transfusion from the cat that stays in their ER. Ours must have the rare type, they are Burmese!
ReplyDeleteWe live in Colorado. MSG me!
Remember!
ReplyDeleteDear, dear dear. Someone out here must be able to help! Wish we could, but I don't even know my blood type, and mama's A-. We'll be purraying very hard for you!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are purring and praying for you! I don't know my cat's bloodtype but if we can find out we will donate.
ReplyDeleteLove and prayers,

The Birmans have an odd bloodtype. I remember that from when Cory (Sniffie's sister) was sick. I posted on FB and will put it on our blog.
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids

ReplyDeletePurring donor can be found soon for dear, sweet Squashies.
ReplyDeleteOh no, poor Squashies! We too are going to post this on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteOh we are purring so hard that Squashies can get the transfusion she needs. Deli was typed to do donations at our vet but she is not the right type.
ReplyDeleteI don't know his blood type but just the other day Nine Lives Foundation posted their Christopher has a rare blood type. Both Nine Lives and Christopher have Facebook pages. Prayers for Squashies!
ReplyDeletewe will purr extra hard and loud that a donor will be found ASAP!
ReplyDeletemomsbusy, kintaro & tt
Oh goodness--we didn't even know cats HAD blood types. We are Asian but have no idea what blood type (and of course it would take at least a day to get there even after finding that out).
ReplyDeleteOMC - this is terrible.. We purray that someone will be found with the right blood type. We don't know what type I am either. I'm purring for all IO'm worth and M is keeping the purrayers going for you Squashies. M is sending your oomana big HUG.
ReplyDeleteWe reposted and please know we are purring very very hard for Squashies!!!
ReplyDeleteI have all my paws crossed for Squashies that you can find a donor. Being in Australia we are of no use to you :(
ReplyDeleteTK and Mom
ReplyDeleteWe just read about Squashies being sick we are so very sorry. This is a wild shot but have you contacted the NCSU VET SCHOOL? I know they have a Blood donor program but I do not know how it works.
Hugs
And purrs
Madi and mom
My human and I both shared on Facebook - I don't know my blood type but I am pretty sure I am too underweight to be a donor anyhow. My paws are crossed that somekitty can help!
ReplyDeleteWe are sending our strongest purrs to Squashies that a donor can be found.

xoxo
Oh, no! Oh, we're purring and purraying hard for Squashies, that a donor already has been found. Sending universal Light and Love to you all.
ReplyDelete-Nicki, Derry and Kim
OH, we are so very sorry. Scylla is the only one who has had any blood work done and it didn't show blood type on the papers Mom was given. We will call the vet clinic Monday and see if they know and we will share your post in hopes that someone who can help will see it.
ReplyDeletePurrs that a donor can be found soon.
None of us know our blood type, but we're all mid-western rescues, so we doubt we could help.
ReplyDeleteppuurrrrrrring that someone out there can help Squashie.
Another suggestion -
ReplyDeleteThe Univ of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine has an amazing Veterinary Hospital in Philadelphia.

Can the Veterinary Universities near you help? Has the Vet called them? Can you call them? I am praying a donor can be found. I will call my vet's office in the morning and ask if they have ANY idea whatsoever thaat can help. I am devestated about this news. Squashies, I love you and your brother so much.
ReplyDeleteI am available if you ever want or need to call Dee. I care deeply.
I'm so sorry to hear this news about Squashies! We've been away for quite a while and this is such sad news to hear. There were a few good ideas from Katie's mom and the anonymous poster. I would imagine your vet would know of any blood donor programs but also hopefully the ideas from Anonymous will help. We will check back tomorrow and say a pray for you and Squashies.
ReplyDeleteWill call our vet in the morning to find out the Carolina Cats' types! Sending purrs for Squashies.
ReplyDeleteFinns, Buddy and Jazzy
Squashies, we hopes you feels better. Sending you our hugs.

Amber and the Pack
We have Mica Minnie Moo, a meezer mix & we live outside Baltimore, so we will ask our vet Monday am.
ReplyDeleteI just said over on the Monkey's page, where they reposted your post, that there are a few bloggers in Baltimore. Hubble space paws for sure and I think that's where the Giggleman gang just moved.. Don't know if any of them have an Asian kitty.. but worth asking? We're purring and praying!
ReplyDeleteOh Dee I am praying for your Squashies, I hope you can find a donor soon!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe hope you find the urgent help you need! Perhaps if you asked for help on Yahoo, someone might be able to help!
ReplyDeleteI will call our vet in the am & find out the blood types we have. Miss Jenga is a Bengal, maybe hers would be of help. I will call you tomorrow with our news.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Ms. Stella O'Houligan
P.S. I put the word out to the Bengal Rescue as well. Somewhere there is a donor!

Here is an article about the Cat bloodtypes. There is a table about which types of cats have prevalence of B blood type and the % that do. Siamese and Burmese, Tonkinese do NOT have B blood. Cornish and Devon Rex would be highest, Abyssinian, Himalayan, Birman, Sphinx and PERSIAN etc intermediate frequency. A Persian or Himalayan cat might be easier to find if people realize. Dee, you may wish to update your "Asian" reference.

Thanks, Simba! You are so sweet to do this for us!

ReplyDeleteWe are so relieved that you have found donors for dear Squashies. Sending our most heart-felt purrs, prayers and healing thoughts Squashies way for all to go well and surrounding her with love.

We are so relieved that a donor was found! Please, beautiful Squashies, get better soon!
ReplyDeleteWe're glad Sqaushie will get her blood transfusion! And we hope her vet can figure out what is happening with her. Purrs and pawhugs.
ReplyDeletePurring that they figure out the problem for poor Squashie!
ReplyDeleteWe just read about Squashie today, and came over here to offer since we are all Siamese, Tonkinese etc. But it looks like we're the *least* likely according to your update...?
ReplyDeleteWe're sooo glad you found a donor - and it's funny that it would be MU that helped you out because we also came to suggest MU's vet school (they have a wonderful reputation!)and ask about the possibility of blood transport vs. kitty transport to Baltimore.
You've given us an idea though - we're going to ask our vet about donating to MU's kitty blood bank. We have Squashie to thank for opening our eyes to this need!
Paws crossed that this will help your vets diagnose Squashie's situation and speed the healing process... Purrs to you all...
Oh GOOD! Now Squashies, we hope the transfusion will give you time for your red cells to get better. Hooray for Keeter and for Cheryl at Wildwood Cats.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to read this update, that she'll get her chance. The boys have their purr motors revved up on high for her, and I'm sending prayers and universal Light. We all have our fingers and crossed for her. (((Hugs)))
ReplyDelete-Kim and the boys
So wonderful you found a donor! Keeping the purrs going!
ReplyDeleteGreat news that you found the donor!! We keep purring very hard!!
ReplyDeleteYippee!! You found a donor!! Lots of purrrs and prayers going your way!!
ReplyDeleteYour TX furiends,
We are excited you found a donor, but we are also so sorry you and Squashies had to go through all of this. We truly wish we could have done something to help. Thank Cod, someone came through! If you need any help, please don't hesitate. Our mom knows how to give shots and fluids, and can pill a kitty faster than you can blink. Let us know how things are going, and we are purring for you! Here's praying the doctors figure it out soon.
ReplyDeleteWe are so happy to hear a blood donor was found. We're purring now that everything will go well.
ReplyDeleteOh yay! We're so glad she's going to get a transfusion! Hopefully now they will be able to figure out what's going on with her!
ReplyDeleteYAYAYAYAY FOR SQUASHIES AND MOM AND DAD WE KNOW YOU ARE RELIEVED BEYOND WORDS. GIVE THAT SWEET SQUASHIES A NOSE TAP FROM MADI AND WE SEND LOTS OF PURRS
ReplyDeleteMADI AND MOM
I am SO GRATEFUL! SO overjoyed and again SO grateful. I too thank each and every person who tried to help..found information for you and led you in the right direction. Each person and kitty had a role here and I am proud to be a member of Twitter, the CB and FB in this case. It all worked together for the good. Kisses to precious Squashies and of course to my TK.
ReplyDeleteWe are SO HAPPY! Please give Squashies a nice big hug from all of us!
ReplyDeleteOMC! I so happy to hear you found a donor. I don't thinks any of us kitties would have that blood type being that 2 of us have Siamese genes. Me is Turkish so that's not British either so I probably not that type either. But we all purrrrrrs to find out what is happening to Squashies. Momma says give her a kiss for her!
